In researching this article, I found that BOTH men and women really dislike hearing about their partner’s previous conquests.  Though communication about one’s past IS important, there is definitely a wrong time and a right time to spill about your Ex.

So why ARE people compelled to talk about the past?

It is something that seems natural to want to do.  You invested time, emotions, and trust in someone, and that person may have been a large part of your life.   Also, we sometimes have a tendency to romanticize things, and be nostalgic about a ‘happy’ time in our lives.

But now that relationship has failed….so….?

Stay in touch??  Just be friends??  TALK TO YOUR NEW PARTNER ABOUT THEM?!?!

NO!

Stop living in the past and keep it to yourself.

And DO NOT think we are somehow intrigued and want to know! (if we ASK, we want to know)

Chances are, if you routinely talk about your Ex, you probably fall into one of these three categories….all of which turn men off, if not scare them away.

Woman #1 – Still in love/Other men=Inadequate – She gushes and glows about her Ex, what a great guy he was, how much money he made, etc.  Her mind already knows what man she wants….the Ex…and us guys can tell.

Woman #2 – Man-hater/Bitter Woman – The scariest one, she constantly talks negatively about her experiences with men.  How her last man didn’t: remember her birthday, ever call her, how he disrespected her, or broke her heart.  She scares men, in that, we see how low her self-respect must be to stay with such a loser…and there is nothing attractive about that

Woman #3 – The Chatterbox – She just can’t stand a pause in a conversation, so she is willing to talk, positive and negative about her Exes to fill the spaces…but if it isn’t informative or interesting, it’s just gossip.  And people who just talk about other people all the time are…boring!

So there it is.

If you find the need to relive your past, or talk negatively/positively about your ex…call a girlfriend, because we don’t want to hear it.

You can’t change the past but you can learn from it.  Start living for the now!

Women having, and hanging out with male friends is a point of contention that comes up in many relationships.

It’s not usually because we don’t trust our women, or that we are immediately jealous of other men,  it’s that we know the male mind all to well.

There is almost ALWAYS ulterior motives (albeit almost sub-consciously) when a man befriends a woman.

SEX.

Shocking isn’t it? A man thinking about sex. Truth is, it isn’t really the only motive, but it is something that will cross his mind at some point in the friendship. We just can’t help it.

As a husband, I can’t help but to be a bit wary when my wife says her new male ‘friend’ from work and her are going to have drinks after work. Not that I don’t trust her, but I know one thing that will cross his mind at some point in their ‘friendship’, and it kinda bugs me!

So ladies, don’t be surprised if your man gets a little ornery about your new guy friend, you now know why!

It’s easy to go out and just buy him something you know he’ll like. A new watch. The new ‘it’ gadget. A cool shirt.

But why not go the extra mile this Valentine’s Day and do something he will remember!

Now, as a man, I feel very intimidated by V-Day. How much am I supposed to spend? Do i get 1 or 2 dozen roses? Will she like what I get her, etc.

Why don’t you take the pressure of your guy this year, and suggest something low-key, but heart-felt. Like a nice meal together! After all, V-day is supposed to be about celebrating your love!

My suggestion is for you to both collaborate on a delicious, decadent meal. This takes away the pressure of you both having to buy gifts which you may or may not like, and puts the focus on the important things, like spending time together and sharing pleasure.

Meal ideas? Well, you can never go wrong with a good steak, but ribs, seafood, and pasta would all be great too! (hint: get something he can BBQ, then compliment him on his ‘Manly’ skills of cooking meat with fire…guys LOVE this!)

Decide what is on the menu, then make a date of it! Spend the time and go to a market together, gathering ingredients, then, go pick a nice bottle of wine (or two!).

After that, head to a kitchen, where, together as a team, you prepare and cook the wonderful meal you are about to share.

A date like this is really great, because you will spend quality time together, have a little fun, enjoy some food, and share some wine…and most importantly, it will be a date NEITHER of you ever forget!

2. Cuddle-time – I think this is one of the biggest problems and mistakes that happens AFTER sex.

The two of you have just had an incredible session of lovemaking, and he rolls over and goes to sleep. Or puts on his boxers and goes and gets a beer.

For men, after sex, we return to the state we were in BEFORE the action happened.  It’s like a switch, and we go right back into our ‘pre-aroused’ state.  Or to sleep.

For women, after sex, they go into a state that is ‘semi-aroused’.  In other words, the height of their passion and sensuality is still above average levels.  And they want to cuddle and talk about it…and then maybe do it again!

So if your man just rolls over and starts snoring instead of snuggling, DO NOT think that he is just being an insensitive jerk.  He’s just being a man…albeit a sleepy one.

Instead, look at it like a compliment that you just rocked his world so hard that he needs to regain his strength!

3. Making Jokes with Friends – This is one of the worst mistakes you can make, and it might be one of the easiest to do!

You might be out having some drinks with your man and some friends and the topic of sex comes up. Do NOT ever crack a joke here.

It may be tempting, because you are with friends and you have some booze in you, and you are just being funny.  But that man sitting beside you will probably not find it funny.

It’s the one area where us men are extremely sensitive!

Even if you are just making the joke in jest, and there is no truth in it, men will have a hard time discerning the truth. Or we will obsess and worry what the friends think about us as men!

So, its an easy mistake to make, but an even easier mistake to correct.  Just don’t do it!
